ARIES (21 March – 19 April)

The zodiacal constellation of Aries is located in the northern celestial hemisphere between Pisces to the west and Taurus to the east. The name Aries is Latin for ram. It is one of the 48 constellations described by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy. It is a mid-sized constellation, ranking 39th overall size. Aries consists of a triangle of its three brightest stars which make up its horns and its nose. The head of the Ram lies just West of the Pleiades and its hindquarters blend with the hindlegs of Taurus, the Bull.

The sign of Aries is ruled by the fiery red planet Mars, the God of War. The sign of Aries which is directly opposite to the sign of Libra seeks self-realization and individualization. The sign of Aries is cardinal and of the element of Fire. The element of Fire is described as enthusiastic and inspirational. The cardinal quality means action-initiating and ambitious.  Arians are on a journey of search for the self. Aries is a natural leader and therefore makes a better employer than employee. The reason for this is that they prefer to give orders rather than been told what to do. Arians thrive on competition and will not be held up by setbacks for very long. Aries thrives on any kind of new adventure and has little patience for those who are not up to the challenge. He or she is often known to be quite arrogant due to their impatience for others who can’t run at their pace.

Those born under the sign of Aries have the creative fertility of the universal forces behind them, but they often lack knowledge and experience as to the ways of the world and therefore they often require guidance as to how to effectively channel their creative force in practical and productive ways. As Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, at their core they are still quite unsure of themselves and often have to work hard at letting go of their childish ways. They tend to hide these insecurities behind a show or courage, bravado and sometimes even an aggressive attitude.

Given their God given leadership qualities and abilities, they often rise up and assume authority and responsibility early on in life. It is natural for them to “ram” ahead and push past anyone that appears to be getting in their way to self-advancement. This kind of self-centered behavior or intolerant demeanor is the more negative expression of the sign.

There is an inherent joyousness, enthusiasm and excitement about those born under the rays of the Ram. Thus Arians are often an inspiration to others and have a knack for injecting a rapturous energy into any given group. Ideas and creative projects seem to flow from them like a never-ending steam. With all these creative juices flowing all the time, Arians need to learn how to remain calm and resist the temptation to literally jumping up and acting upon every impulse that grabs their fancy. Furthermore, because the energies of Aries are intensely self-directed, they find it difficult to see other peoples’ perspectives and point of views if they are not in alignment with their own.

Many challenging lessons come to Arians through relationships, especially the marriage relationship, as the sign is the polar opposite of the sign of Libra, the sign of relationships.

Aries as a cardinal sign, makes Arians the ability to act quickly, directly, effectively and decisively upon present circumstances. Aries is the sign of a cycle of new beginnings which makes them natural born pioneers who blazes new trails ahead and makes a path for others to follow. This rush of life energy is often difficult for them to harness effectively and they need to learn the lesson of love and consideration for others, as their continuous urge to rush forth often leaves them being inconsiderate of others and trampling upon a few toes.
