AQUARIUS (20 January – 18 February)

The name Aquarius is Latin for "cup bearer" or "water bearer".   The constellation is found in the Southern Hemisphere and is one of the oldest documented constellations of the Zodiac, recorded in the second century by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy. There are no particularly bright stars in the constellation and it can be difficult to view with the naked eye. However, it is the 10th largest constellation in the sky.

The Aquarian glyph represents waves of water and is the Egyptian hieroglyphic for water. Aquarius is popularly known as the “Water-Bearer”, for the water that the Aquarian Man distributes is the waters of consciousness and a universal understanding that “all men are indeed brothers and children of Earth and the cosmos”. The sign of Aquarius symbolizes Man perfected by his understanding of the oneness of mankind.

The sign of Aquarius is a fixed and of the element of Air. It therefore follows that they are intellectual and communicative. The fixed side to their nature makes them determined, stubborn and persistent. Their minds are analytical and scientific, often slanting towards the more humanistic side of science. The sign of Aquarius is known to be the bohemian of the Zodiac, in that they are usually the most eccentric of the lot and are willing and waiting to try anything exciting, unusual and new. Aquarians are not very conservative in their beliefs and are usually always game to experiment with things that are new.

They take enjoyment from joining groups and clubs or associations where they can congregate together to share thoughts, ideas or experiences. Group spirit is an essential element of socializing that Aquarians love and adore, especially when gathering for the purpose of awakening or achieving a higher group, humanistic, or spiritual ideal. Aquarians enjoy a multifarious social life often engaging in taboo group activities not sanctioned by the majority of society.

Ultimately the Aquarian is the “Truth Seeker”. The delve beneath the murky veils of codes of behavior in society and are natural “sham” or “hypocrisy” detectors in any size, shape or form. This sign strives to unite, connect and form new channels of communication and mutually nurturing friendships by in some form of ritually based discipline recognizes the hidden divinity or spiritual equality of every being on planet Earth.

Aquarians come to life through their inventive and innovative spirit, often facing enormous and overwhelming obstacles placed in their path by their ruler Saturn and are forced to draw upon an enormous reservoir of inner strength, determination and commitment as they courageously press on with their crusade staring in the face of social obstruction, potential embarrassment and even ridicule for their pioneering and progressive belief system and or lifestyle.

Given the fixed nature of the sign, they tend to be notoriously stubborn. Once their minds are made up about something, no amount of persuasion (subtle or aggressive) will convince them to change their mind. This applies even more so when challenging an intellectual or spiritual ideal. Almost all Aquarians enjoy pursuing interest outside of the home. They do not make a habit of setting aside very much time for homemaking chores. Most of them prefer not to be bound up in regular habits of routine or restricted by any kind of prescriptive behavior regulations, but easily adapt if needs be.

The true Aquarian is the bringer of light. Aquarius is the sign that brings in new ideas, inventions, social doctrines, belief systems to Earth so that mankind can experiment with them. The sign of Aquarius is on a broad level completely involved with and absorbed in matters of humanity. Breaking borders and dissolving boundaries, and building bridges between people and nations are his or her thing. They tend to get along well with others, cooperate in groups and exhibit a gentle and tender nature who try and live they life in the spirit of universal or “brotherly” love.
